About the OLYMP project
"Fostering Media Literacy and Athlete Empowerment through OLYMPic Values" — sport as a tool against disinformation.
The essence of the initiative
OLYMP harnesses the power and influence of sport to develop critical thinking and media literacy among young elite athletes. The aim is to build their resilience against disinformation, foster active democratic participation and equip them with practical tools to confidently navigate today's complex media environment.
Athletes are often role models for young people and have a wide reach on social media. That is exactly why they can be powerful champions of truth — yet they are also vulnerable to fake news, manipulated images and online harassment. OLYMP turns this visibility into a tool for positive change.
The project unites Olympic committees and a leading university library from four countries in a shared mission — a media-literate and resilient new generation of athletes.
